Overview
- Microsoft issued the out-of-band KB5072653 package on November 17 to resolve installation errors that blocked the November ESU update KB5068781.
- The original failure showed error 0x800f0922 and primarily affected devices activated via Windows subscription activation in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
- After installing KB5072653 and rebooting, administrators should rerun Windows Update to deploy KB5068781 successfully.
- Microsoft says a refreshed Scan Cab with updated metadata is coming to correct WSUS and SCCM compliance and visibility reporting.
- Consumer and privately licensed PCs were largely unaffected, and KB5068781 is the first Windows 10 ESU released following the October 14 end of free support.
