Overview
- Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 12-inch (2nd edition) and Surface Laptop 13-inch (2nd edition) at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit on Sept. 23, 2026, with preorders open and an on-sale date of Oct. 13, 2026.
- Both models use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus and Microsoft says the chip yields up to 17% faster Office tasks, 18% better battery efficiency, more than 60% faster graphics, and up to 95% faster local AI via an 80 TOPS NPU.
- The devices start with higher base specs than the originals, offering 16GB or 24GB of RAM, 256GB or 512GB storage, brighter 500-nit displays, a 12-inch Pro screen at 2,196 x 1,464 up to 90Hz and a 13-inch Laptop screen at 1,920 x 1,280 at 60Hz.
- Microsoft is shipping Ink Canvas, an AI-first pen app preloaded on the Surface Pro and available to download on Oct. 13, and a redesigned Surface Mouse with haptic feedback, a customizable Copilot/action button and a $79.99 starting price.
- The new models are substantially pricier than the 2025 versions—roughly $350 more for the Pro and $300 more for the Laptop—which shifts Microsoft’s consumer positioning and raises stakes against Apple’s M-series Macs and new Chromebook entrants.
