Overview
- Microsoft detailed the redesign in a Windows Insider blog post and has started rolling the changes out to Windows Insider testers for feedback.
- A new "Customize Menu" button at the bottom of the context menu links to Personalization settings where users can enable or disable built‑in commands such as Print, Send To and Create Shortcut.
- Third‑party shell extensions will be collected into a separate grouped submenu that users can hide, a move Microsoft says will reduce delays caused by many app-added entries.
- Common file actions — Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Delete and Share — will return as full text entries instead of icon-only buttons, and Properties will move to the end of the menu.
- Microsoft is also applying File Explorer performance fixes including faster startup, fewer short freezes, smoother navigation, and automatic display of file sizes in KB/MB/GB.
