Overview
- Microsoft announced the unified, enterprise-focused Copilot on Friday and has begun early rollouts of Home and Code through its Frontier early-access program while Copilot Managed Runtime is in public preview and Autopilot is expanding in private preview.
- Home will be the central workspace that merges chat, Cowork and Office editing so users can create and edit real Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly inside Copilot.
- Code lets non-developers describe apps, dashboards or automations in plain language and uses GitHub Copilot technology to generate code that runs in isolated environments via Copilot Managed Runtime.
- Autopilot is a persistent cloud agent that can be given a name, role and objective to monitor channels, execute recurring tasks and continue work autonomously under IT-set permissions and auditing.
- Microsoft is shifting to a mixed billing model that keeps a per-user license for routine tasks while charging by usage for Cowork, Code and Autopilot and providing FinOps for AI tools so admins can set model access, budgets and policies.
