Overview
- Many WSUS-managed enterprise systems fail to install the August 12 KB5063878 update, reporting error code 0x80240069 and unexpected Windows Update service (wuauserv) crashes.
- Microsoft confirmed the WSUS-specific delivery issue on its Windows release health page and said home users are unlikely to be affected.
- A Known Issue Rollback is now rolling out automatically to enterprise-managed devices to restore successful installation of the 24H2 cumulative update.
- IT administrators can apply a published KIR Group Policy immediately to accelerate the rollback across their managed endpoints.
- Until the rollback is fully propagated, organizations can import the patch manually via WSUS using specific Update-IDs, apply registry or PowerShell tweaks, or download it from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
