Overview

  • The retirement process begins September 15, with new Lens installs disabled by mid-October, removal from app stores by mid-November and scan creation blocked after December 15, 2025.
  • Microsoft advises Lens users to migrate to its Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app, which integrates scanning but currently lacks direct saving to OneNote, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Copilot also does not yet offer business-card digitization or accessibility features such as read-aloud functionality and Immersive Reader.
  • Existing scans will remain accessible in the Lens MyScans folder and through Copilot’s My Creations section in OneDrive after support ends.
  • The Lens shutdown is part of a broader effort to retire legacy mobile apps, following the discontinuation of Authenticator password autofill, Publisher and Paint 3D earlier this year.
