- Microsoft paused distribution of the out-of-band update KB5002907 on Monday after receiving reports that the patch produced licensing errors and left some machines without working Office apps.
- KB5002907 was offered as an optional Windows Update to Current Channel and Monthly Enterprise Channel devices to repair updater problems and bring Microsoft 365 and Office installs that had not been updated for more than 90 days back to a current state.
- Affected users saw valid retail licenses for Office 2016 and Office 2019 marked as unlicensed, and in several cases programs such as Word and Excel were removed or rendered nonfunctional.
