Microsoft Pauses Game Pass Ultimate Price Hike for Existing Subscribers in Select Countries

Microsoft cites local requirements and promises at least 60 days’ notice before applying higher rates to auto-renewing accounts in those markets.

Overview

  • Emails confirm existing, auto-renewing members in countries including Germany, Ireland, Italy, South Korea, Poland, and India will keep current rates for now, while new purchases are charged the higher price.
  • The pause does not apply in the US or UK, where new subscribers pay $30 for Ultimate immediately and most existing users are set to transition to the new rate starting November 4.
  • Microsoft says canceling and later repurchasing will forfeit the current price and trigger the updated rate.
  • The company will give at least 60 days’ advance notice before raising prices for grandfathered subscribers in affected regions.
  • Separately, Xbox removed many Game Pass store discounts and replaced them with Microsoft Rewards points accrual, as subscriber backlash and cancellations surged after the overhaul.
