Microsoft Overhauls Windows Recall Feature to Enhance Security and Privacy

The controversial AI-powered tool now includes opt-in usage, encryption, and uninstall options to address privacy concerns.

Recall will be available only on Copilot+ PCs running Windows 11 and will require features like TPM 2.0 and System Guard Secure Launch.
The feature is now opt-in, meaning it will remain off by default unless users actively choose to enable it.
Users can fully uninstall Recall, removing all related data and AI models from their systems.
New privacy controls allow users to filter out specific apps and websites, and sensitive information like passwords and credit card numbers is automatically excluded.
Recall data is encrypted and stored within a secure Virtualization-based Security Enclave, accessible only through biometric authentication.
