Overview
- The Windows Update orchestration platform entered private preview on May 27, allowing developers to integrate app and driver updates alongside OS patches.
- Developers can onboard their products using WinRT APIs or PowerShell commands to register update providers and supply custom scan tools for MSIX, APPX and Win32 installers.
- The orchestrator employs intelligent scheduling to apply updates during idle periods, plugged-in sessions or sustainable energy windows to minimize user disruption.
- Onboarded apps surface through native Windows Update notifications and appear in the centralized update history within Windows Settings.
- While targeting business and enterprise applications first, the platform will support any third-party apps and management tools that integrate with its APIs.
