Overview
- Microsoft opened preorders Wednesday, Oct. 7, for the Surface Laptop Ultra starting at $2,599 and said shipments will begin on Oct. 16.
- The laptop uses NVIDIA’s RTX Spark SoC in 18‑ or 20‑core variants paired with a Blackwell GPU offering up to 6,144 cores and a unified LPDDR5X memory pool that scales to 128 GB.
- Microsoft and NVIDIA say the platform can run models of roughly 120 billion parameters on‑device and advertise up to about one petaflop of theoretical FP4 AI throughput, though real performance will vary by workload.
- Windows is receiving staged updates to support RTX Spark, including new CPU scheduling, a power and thermal framework, MXC execution containers for agent governance, and Prism compatibility for x86 apps on Arm.
- Multiple OEMs including Dell, HP, Asus, Lenovo, MSI and Acer are shipping RTX Spark laptops this October and Microsoft also opened preorders for a $5,999 Surface RTX Spark Dev Box that ships later in November.
