- Microsoft formally announced Project Zenith on Friday as a preconfigured Windows 11 experience aimed at developers, not a new Windows SKU.
- Zenith-certified devices must meet a high hardware baseline including 64 GB of unified memory and 250 GB/s memory bandwidth so they can run 30-billion-parameter models locally and without metered cloud tokens.
- AMD unveiled the first certified Ryzen AI Halo mini PC at IFA to ship with Project Zenith settings preinstalled and Microsoft says additional OEM and silicon partners will ship certified devices in the coming months.
- The software side of Zenith is a curated set of defaults and preinstalled developer tools—Visual Studio Code, Git, GitHub Copilot, PowerToys, WSL and others—that declutter Windows by showing file extensions, enabling long paths, and turning off start tips and sync prompts.
- Microsoft published the Windows Developer Config on GitHub as an open-source winget configuration so any Windows 11 user can apply the same developer-ready setup on existing machines even if they lack the high-end hardware needed for large local models.
