  • Microsoft announced it is laying off approximately 9,000 employees, or roughly 4 percent of its global workforce.
  • Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty confirmed the cancellation of the Perfect Dark reboot, Rare’s Everwild and other unannounced projects.
  • The Initiative studio has been shut down and an unannounced MMO from ZeniMax Online Studios has been canceled.
  • Turn 10 Studios lost nearly half its staff, King cut around 10 percent of its employees and Call of Duty developers Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games were also affected.
  • Microsoft says it will provide severance and career transition support as it refocuses resources on its top franchises and high-priority titles.
