Overview
- Microsoft released the July Patchday on July 15, 2026, closing more than 600 vulnerabilities across Windows, Office, Edge/Chromium and cloud products with about 60 rated critical.
- Two of the patched flaws are confirmed to be actively exploited in the wild: an AD FS elevation-of-privilege bug (CVE-2026-56155) and a SharePoint server issue (CVE-2026-56164), and U.S. authorities have urged admins to harden on-premises systems and apply fixes quickly.
- KB5101650 delivers Windows 11 features including Point-in-Time Restore, which restores system state and local files to a recent point within 72 hours, but Microsoft has temporarily blocked its rollout to a subset of Intel-based Dell PCs after reports of shutdowns, overheating and fast battery drain while investigating the cause.
- Reports link the device problems to a possible interaction between June’s optional KB5095093 (which added a USB-C Connection Manager) and an Intel 'Innovation Platform Framework Processor Participant' driver, a theory that Microsoft and Dell are still validating as they work on a fix.
- Windows 10 ESU customers received KB5099539 that applies the same security fixes and updates Secure Boot certificates, and administrators are advised to test updates, follow vendor advisories, stage deployments and expect further staged fixes in the coming days.
