Microsoft Issues Emergency Windows 10 Update to Fix ESU Enrollment as First ESU Patch Rolls Out

Installing KB5071959 restores ESU signup, enabling delivery of November security fixes.

Overview

  • Out-of-band update KB5071959 targets devices blocked from Extended Security Updates, repairing an enrollment wizard failure that threw errors such as “Something went wrong” and regional “temporarily unavailable” messages.
  • After installing KB5071959, affected PCs can complete ESU enrollment via the wizard and then receive November’s cumulative security update through Windows Update.
  • November’s ESU cumulative for Windows 10 (KB5068781) delivers roughly 63–66 fixes, including an actively exploited Windows kernel zero‑day, and moves Version 22H2 to Build 19045.6575.
  • KB5071959 is offered only to systems not yet enrolled; devices already in ESU continue to receive updates normally and do not require the emergency patch.
  • Microsoft also corrected erroneous “end of support” warnings on covered systems via KB5068781 and cloud/KIR rollbacks, and it reiterates that consumers can enroll in ESU via $30 payment, Microsoft Rewards points, or Windows Backup options, with expanded free routes in the EEA.
