Overview

  • As of May 29, Edge version 137.0.3296.52 in the EEA stops prompting users to set Edge as the default unless they open the browser directly.
  • Microsoft will roll out in July expanded default-browser settings on Windows 10 and 11 that apply to additional link and file types and automatically pin chosen browsers to the taskbar.
  • Starting in early June, Windows Search in the EEA will support third-party search providers, letting users install and reorder alternative web search apps.
  • Later in 2025, EEA users will be able to uninstall the Microsoft Store while still receiving updates for apps originally installed through it.
  • These changes stem from Microsoft’s designation as a gatekeeper under the EU’s Digital Markets Act and currently apply only within the European Economic Area.
