Overview

  • Microsoft resolved a bug in its March 2025 Windows updates that unintentionally uninstalled the Copilot AI app from some Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.
  • The bug impacted systems running updates KB5053598 and KB5053606, causing the app to be removed and unpinned from the taskbar.
  • Users who did not want to wait for the automatic fix were advised to manually reinstall and pin the app via the Microsoft Store.
  • The issue did not affect the separate Microsoft 365 Copilot app, which remains fully functional.
  • Microsoft has not disclosed the root cause of the bug and did not include the issue on its Windows release health dashboard, drawing criticism for a lack of transparency.
