Overview

  • Private Windows 10 PCs will receive free monthly security updates from October 15, 2025 through October 13, 2026 under the Extended Security Updates program.
  • An ESU wizard in Windows notifications and settings will guide users through three enrollment paths: cloud backup sync, 1,000 Rewards points redemption, or a paid license.
  • Activating the free backup option requires a Microsoft account and may exceed the 5 GB of complimentary OneDrive storage for users with larger data volumes.
  • The ESU offering delivers only critical and important security patches and excludes new features, nonsecurity fixes, design changes, and technical support.
  • Business customers can purchase up to three years of ESU through volume licensing at a starting price of $61 per device per year, with higher rates in subsequent years.
