Microsoft Extends Windows 10 Consumer ESU Through October 2027

The quietly updated policy preserves monthly security-only patches for enrolled home PCs to provide more time to transition to newer hardware.

Overview

  • Microsoft disclosed June 25, 2026 that it had quietly extended the Windows 10 consumer Extended Security Updates program so coverage now runs through October 12, 2027.
  • Users already enrolled will have their coverage automatically continued through the new end date and need take no action to remain eligible.
  • Consumers can enroll by signing into a Microsoft account for free, redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, or paying a one-time $30 fee, and one ESU license covers up to 10 devices.
  • The consumer ESU supplies monthly security-only updates, including critical fixes such as Secure Boot certificate updates, and does not include new features or technical support.
  • The change was published quietly in Microsoft’s documentation and an Editor’s note on the Windows Experience Blog, and observers say it likely eases upgrade pressure caused by high PC costs and slow Windows 11 uptake.
