Microsoft Extends Free Windows 10 Security Updates Until October 2026

A July enrollment wizard will let users secure another year of support by syncing settings with Windows Backup or redeeming Microsoft Rewards points

  • Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025, after which personal devices can receive Extended Security Updates free until October 13, 2026
  • Consumers will be offered a new ESU enrollment wizard in July with options to enable Windows Backup, redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, or pay $30
  • Organizations can purchase ESU at $61 per device per year for up to three years through Microsoft Volume Licensing or Cloud Service Providers
  • Over 60% of Windows PCs still run Windows 10 and at least 240 million machines lack the hardware to upgrade to Windows 11
  • Windows 11 has just overtaken Windows 10’s global market share as Microsoft pushes upgrades, new PC sales and advisories like India’s CERT-In alert users to transition
