Microsoft Expands Link to Windows: Android Phones Can Now Lock PCs, Share Clipboard, Send Files

The features arrive via Link to Windows 1.25102.140.0 in a staged rollout to supported Windows 11 systems.

Overview

  • The update adds a Lock PC toggle in the Android app that secures a connected Windows 11 computer in seconds, disconnects the session, and does not support unlocking via phone.
  • Phone-to-PC transfers are now supported through a new Send files option, with a Recent Activity view in the app that lists shared files, photos, links, and clipboard items.
  • Cross-device clipboard sync is available, including images, so items copied on Windows 11 can appear on the phone once cross-device copy and paste is enabled in Windows Settings.
  • A Mirror to PC (Cast to PC) button enables one-tap screen mirroring from Android, with Microsoft testing an Expanded mode for larger app views during mirroring.
  • The Android app now shows the PC’s battery level and Wi‑Fi strength with roughly minute-by-minute updates, and the rollout may take time and requires compatible Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 builds.
