• Microsoft has introduced the 'Hey, Copilot!' wake word for hands-free interaction with its Copilot AI assistant on Windows 11.
• The feature is being rolled out globally to Windows Insiders using the English display language and requires users to opt in and update to Copilot app version 1.25051.10.0 or later.
• Wake word detection is processed entirely on-device with a 10-second audio buffer, ensuring no voice clips are sent to the cloud or stored locally.
• While the wake word works offline, an internet connection is necessary for Copilot to process user queries via cloud-based AI capabilities.
• Once activated, the feature displays a floating microphone UI and plays a chime to indicate that it is listening for commands.
