Overview

  • Constellation Energy has advanced the restart of Three Mile Island Unit 1—now renamed the Crane Clean Energy Center—to 2027, one year ahead of its original 2028 target after PJM Interconnection fast-tracked the interconnection process.
  • Under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Microsoft, the reactor will deliver roughly 835 megawatts of low-carbon electricity to fuel the company’s data centers.
  • The project is projected to create about 3,400 direct and indirect jobs and provide a roughly $16 billion boost to Pennsylvania’s economy.
  • Constellation is engaging with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on licensing and safety pathways to ensure regulatory approval for the plant’s relaunch.
  • The upcoming restart reflects a broader U.S. effort to triple nuclear capacity by 2050 and meet surging electricity demand driven by AI and data center growth.
