Overview

  • The August 12 Windows 11 24H2 cumulative update KB5063878 fails to install via WSUS on enterprise systems, often returning error code 0x80240069 and logging unexpected termination of the Windows Update service.
  • Microsoft confirmed the WSUS delivery issue in its Windows release health advisory and began an automated rollback rollout to affected enterprise-managed devices.
  • Administrators are advised to deploy the KIR Group Policy for Windows 11 24H2 and restart endpoints to apply the rollback fix.
  • While rollback propagation completes, IT teams can import shared Update-IDs into WSUS or manually install KB5063878 from the Microsoft Update Catalog using registry or PowerShell workarounds.
  • A similar WSUS delivery failure in April was resolved by a Known Issue Rollback in May, underscoring recurring challenges with enterprise update distribution.
