Overview

  • Microsoft will not release the 25H2 feature update for Windows 11 SE, capping the edition at version 24H2.
  • Support for SE—including software updates, technical assistance and security fixes—will cease in October 2026.
  • Devices running SE will continue functioning after support ends but schools are advised to migrate to other Windows 11 editions to maintain security.
  • Windows 11 SE launched in late 2021 as a cloud-first, simplified variant preinstalled on education-focused PCs to challenge Chromebooks.
  • Because SE shares the full Windows 11 codebase, it struggled on low-cost hardware and Microsoft is refocusing on its core Windows 11 Education offering.
