Microsoft Confirms Pluton Initialization Errors in Windows 11 24H2, Urges Ignoring Event Viewer Warnings

Microsoft traces the recurring Event Viewer Error ID 57 to an in-development Pluton feature with no operational impact, promising a fix in a future release.

Overview

  • Windows 11 24H2 devices began logging CertificateServicesClient (CertEnroll) Error ID 57 after installing the July 2025 non-security preview update (KB5062660) and the August security update.
  • The Event Viewer entry states “The ‘Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider’ provider was not loaded because initialization failed,” appearing on every device restart.
  • Microsoft says the logged error is a harmless byproduct of a feature still under development and does not affect any active Windows component or process.
  • The Windows Release Health dashboard was updated between August 11 and 13 to advise users and administrators to disregard the error messages temporarily.
  • A patch to remove the misleading diagnostic entries is scheduled for a forthcoming Windows update, following similar fixes for false warnings in recent months.
