Overview

  • After installing the August 2025 security updates, reset and recovery operations can fail on affected client devices, including Reset my PC, Fix problems using Windows Update, and RemoteWipe CSP workflows.
  • Impacted platforms include Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2 (KB5063875) and Windows 10 22H2 and LTSC 2021/2019 editions (KB5063709, KB5063877), while Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server are not affected.
  • Microsoft says it will deliver out-of-band updates in the coming days to resolve the issue, and it advises users and administrators to postpone recovery or reset actions until the fix arrives.
  • Enterprises may see remote reset attempts via the RemoteWipe configuration service provider fail, increasing operational risk for managed fleets.
  • Separately, Microsoft says an upgrade error (0x8007007F) seen from August 12 was resolved by August 15, and it has recently used Known Issue Rollback and other fixes for update problems including WUSA network-share installs and WSUS delivery errors.
