Overview

  • Eligible devices on 24H2 can receive the update now by enabling the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle, with safeguard holds applied if Microsoft detects app or driver issues.
  • Version 25H2 shares the 24H2 code base, so most new Windows features will continue to arrive via monthly updates rather than through this feature update itself.
  • Security advances include improved build and runtime vulnerability detection with AI‑assisted secure coding, and the removal of PowerShell 2.0 and the WMIC tool.
  • Organizations can deploy immediately via Windows Autopatch and the Microsoft 365 admin center, download ISOs or use Installation Assistant, and expect WSUS availability on October 14, 2025.
  • Servicing timelines reset to 36 months for Enterprise and Education and 24 months for Home and Pro, as an optional KB5065789 preview for 24H2 adds AI Actions in File Explorer and other interface updates.
