Overview
- The optional preview update KB5127936 began rolling out on Oct. 28 and delivers a redesigned context (right‑click) menu that opens more quickly and reduces clutter.
- Users can customize which built‑in commands and app extensions appear, add commands like Print, show Cut/Copy/Paste inline, and move Properties to the bottom of the menu.
- Microsoft is staging the feature so not every PC sees it immediately, and enabling the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle increases the chance of earlier visibility.
- Microsoft published large offline .msu installers of roughly 4.8–5.0 GB via the Update Catalog but recommends using Windows Update for a much smaller download.
- The update also brings File Explorer refinements such as more consistent search results, a ~ shortcut to profile/AppData folders, initial dark mode for Folder Options, and will be folded into the broader Windows K2 changes on Patch Tuesday, November 10.
