Overview
- Issues began around 16:00 UTC, disrupting access to Azure services and Microsoft 365 offerings such as Outlook, Teams, Xbox, Minecraft and Copilot.
- Mitigation included blocking Azure Front Door changes, failing the portal away from AFD, rerouting traffic and deploying a rollback, with Microsoft reporting initial recovery and node restoration.
- Customer configuration changes remain temporarily blocked while engineers monitor recovery and route traffic through healthy nodes.
- User reports on Downdetector peaked at more than 18,000 for Azure and nearly 11,700 for Microsoft 365 before trending downward as services recovered.
- Operational knock-on effects were reported by businesses including Alaska Airlines, Vodafone, Heathrow and NatWest, as Microsoft advised programmatic access via PowerShell or CLI when the portal was impaired.
