Microsoft and Asus Preview ROG Xbox Ally Handheld Ahead of 2025 Holiday Launch

Booting into a custom Xbox app instead of Windows, the device offers native Xbox gaming next to cloud streaming with access to PC storefront libraries such as Steam, Epic, PlayStation PC ports.

  • The ROG Xbox Ally and premium Ally X variants, announced on June 8, run Windows 11 Home with a tailored Xbox Experience interface instead of the standard desktop.
  • Pre-orders are expected soon for the holiday 2025 launch, with pricing and an exact release date yet to be confirmed by Microsoft.
  • Ally X is equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24 GB LPDDR5X RAM and a 1 TB M.2 SSD, while the base model features a Ryzen Z2 A chip, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage.
  • Both handhelds support native Xbox libraries, cloud gaming via Xbox Game Pass, remote play, third-party PC storefronts including Steam and Epic and can run PC-ported PlayStation titles.
  • Xbox chief Phil Spencer called the project the closest collaboration between Microsoft’s gaming and Windows teams in his three-decade tenure.
