Microsoft Adds Anthropic’s Claude Models to Microsoft 365 Copilot

The opt-in rollout signals a shift toward multi-vendor AI to give enterprises more choice for complex work.

Overview

  • Enterprise customers enrolled in the Frontier program can now choose Claude Sonnet 4 or Claude Opus 4.1 in the Researcher agent starting today.
  • Copilot remains powered by OpenAI by default, with an option to switch to Anthropic models in Researcher after opting in.
  • Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1 are also available in Copilot Studio, enabling organizations to build and manage agents for deep reasoning and workflow automation.
  • Anthropic’s models run on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud and are accessed via Anthropic’s API under Anthropic terms, and administrators must enable them for users.
  • The move advances Microsoft’s diversification strategy alongside its in‑house model efforts and broader third‑party integrations, including DeepSeek, xAI and Meta offerings.
