Micron Breaks Ground on $100 Billion NY Chip Campus After New Lawsuit Filed

Site preparation is imminent, signaling a push toward first production in 2030.

Overview

  • Jobs to Move America and Neighbors for a Better Micron filed suit in New York State Supreme Court seeking to void OCIDA’s environmental approval and reopen the review.
  • The complaint alleges insufficient analysis of PFAS and other chemical emissions, greenhouse gases, and the loss of roughly 200 acres of wetlands, as well as a lack of enforceable local-hiring terms.
  • Micron plans a four-fab complex in Clay by 2041, projecting 9,000 direct jobs at the fabs and about 40,000 additional jobs across suppliers and related roles.
  • Early work is expected within days, including clearing 445 acres of forest, hauling about 2 million cubic yards of fill, and dispatching more than 500 trucks daily on local two-lane roads, with tree cutting paused from March 31 to Nov. 1 for endangered bats.
  • The project previously secured $6.1 billion in federal CHIPS Act funding, and Micron has outlined off-site mitigation including 1,216 acres of bat habitat and new wetland construction.
