Mick Ralphs, Guitarist Behind Bad Company and Mott the Hoople, Dies at 81

His posthumous Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction with Bad Company is scheduled for November 2025.

Overview

  • Ralphs performed his final show in October 2016 at London’s O2 Arena, suffering a stroke days later that left him bedridden until his passing.
  • He co-founded Mott the Hoople in 1969 and left in 1973 to form Bad Company, writing and cowriting rock anthems such as “Can’t Get Enough,” “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” and “All the Young Dudes.”
  • Bad Company’s 1974 self-titled debut topped the Billboard 200 and went five-times platinum, cementing the band’s status in the 1970s rock scene.
  • Bandmates Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke honored Ralphs as a dear friend and gifted songwriter, with Rodgers recalling a final shared laugh shortly before his death.
  • His cause of death has not been disclosed, and he is survived by partner Susie Chavasse, two children, and three step-children.
