Michoacán Overhauls Public Security Leadership, Names Cruz Medina and Vega Sayabedra

The governor frames the reshuffle as a push to tighten coordination with federal forces under the Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia.

Overview

  • Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla removed SSP secretary Juan Carlos Oseguera Cortés and operations subsecretary José Ortega Silva.
  • José Antonio Cruz Medina, recently vice prosecutor for Intelligence and Criminal Investigation at the state FGE and formerly a specialized investigations subsecretary at the SSP, was appointed SSP secretary.
  • Ramsés Adalid Vega Sayabedra, previously director general of the Auxiliary Police, was named subsecretary of Police Operations with a profile in intelligence and seven years of Army service.
  • The administration says the appointments strengthen operational leadership and federal–state coordination as part of the Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia.
  • The changes follow weeks of unrest that included protests, incursions into government offices, aggression toward reporters, and the recent killings of local social and political leaders.
