Michoacán Begins Statewide Distribution of Free Student SIMs as D4TA Enrollment Tops 111,000

Backed by CFE-donated chips and state-funded service, the Plan Michoacán program targets the digital divide for students in middle and higher education.

Overview

  • In-person pickup runs March 17–27 at Ceconexpo in Morelia and regional sites in Zamora, Ciudad Hidalgo, Uruapan, Apatzingán and Lázaro Cárdenas, with posted weekday and weekend hours.
  • Authorities reopened registration from March 17 to 20 on data.michoacan.gob.mx, lifting the tally from more than 107,000 to about 111,000 registered students.
  • Each SIM provides 4 GB of data per month plus unlimited calls, messages and social networks, with the state paying for service lines and CFE supplying the chips.
  • To collect a SIM, students must present copies of INE and CURP; minors need a parent or guardian’s ID and CURP, and UMSNH students must show a course-load screenshot or valid student ID.
  • Targeted deliveries include 8,500 chips for Conalep students and more than 2,000 for Cecytem communities, as officials report sufficient stock for the ongoing, multi-site rollout.
