Michoacán and Oaxaca Unveil Day of the Dead Tourism Plans With Attendance and Revenue Targets

Officials pair heritage programming with firm visitor and revenue forecasts to steer late‑October travel.

  • Michoacán schedules its Week of the Dead for October 24–November 2 with an estimated 420,000 visitors and a projected economic spillover reported between 500 million and 520 million pesos, according to Tourism Secretary Roberto Monroy García.
  • Oaxaca sets activities for October 26–November 3 and expects more than 89,000 visitors with a 381 million peso spillover, a 5.86% increase versus 2024, said state tourism chief Saymi Pineda Velasco.

  • Oaxaca’s lineup includes a Historic Center Facades Contest, Diverti Muertos, Verbena Xandú, the Gran Comparsa, a Catrinas competition, a 250 m² sand carpet in Jalatlaco and the Flores que guían el alma experience in cempasúchil fields operated by local providers.
  • Michoacán extends promotion beyond the state with a showcase at Xcaret’s Festival de Almas Danzantes featuring monumental altars, 12 traditional cooks, 12 artisans and five mezcal producers, while allocating 4 million pesos to support 58 lacustrine communities.
