Michigan State Trooper Killed in Line of Duty During Traffic Stop

Trooper Joel Popp, a four-year veteran of the force, is the 56th Michigan State Trooper to die on duty.

Michigan State Police Trooper Joel Popp was struck by a vehicle and killed while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Saginaw County.
Popp, 39, had joined the Michigan State Police four years ago and is survived by his wife and young daughter.
The vehicle that struck Popp was driven by an 81-year-old motorist who also hit two patrol cars; the motorist suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.
Popp is the 56th Michigan State Trooper to be killed in the line of duty.
State police are asking the public to keep Popp's family and fellow troopers in their thoughts.
