Michigan State Police Officer Daniel Kerstetter Dies After Traffic Stop Crash

Officer Kerstetter, who was struck by another vehicle during a traffic stop, will donate his organs before being laid to rest.

Daniel Kerstetter, a Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer, was involved in a fatal crash during a traffic stop on I-75 in Lincoln Park.
Kerstetter was in his police vehicle when a Ford Explorer struck it, pushing it into the back of a semi-truck; the Ford Explorer driver also died.
Kerstetter, a father of three and former Detroit Red Wings equipment aide, will be taken off life support and his organs will be donated.
A procession honored Kerstetter as he was transported from Detroit Receiving Hospital to Verheyden Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Park.
Public visitation is scheduled for Thursday, with a funeral service on Friday at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Farms.
