Michigan Secures Commitment From Weston Port
The flip strengthens Michigan’s projected 2027 middle-linebacker group and Port is set to enroll in January after finishing a Mormon mission.
Overview
- Weston Port announced his commitment to Michigan on Monday and will join the program in January after completing roughly six months remaining on a mission in the Canary Islands or Spain.
- Port originally signed with UCLA in December 2024 but reopened his recruitment this spring after UCLA fired DeShaun Foster and hired Bob Chesney, then chose Michigan over renewed interest from multiple Power Five programs.
- Michigan linebackers coach Alex Whittingham led the push for Port and his recruitment is credited with putting the Wolverines in strong contention for the flip.
- Port is viewed as a middle (MIKE) linebacker, will join four-star Frederrick Ford and three-star Brayden Watson in the 2027 class, and his pledge brings Michigan’s reported 2027 total to 20 commitments.
- Recruiting services list Port as a three-star prospect after an earlier four-star rating, he recorded 442 high-school tackles with 75 tackles for loss and 24.5 sacks, and his delayed enrollment highlights Michigan’s recent success with mission-serving recruits from the West Coast.
