Michigan Salon Faces Discrimination Charge Over Owner's Social Media Post

Christine Geiger, owner of Studio 8 Hair Lab, is accused of violating the state's civil rights act with a post stating that anyone not identifying as a man or woman is not welcome at her salon.

The Michigan Department of Civil Rights has filed a discrimination charge against Studio 8 Hair Lab, a salon in Traverse City, over a social media post by its owner, Christine Geiger.
Geiger's post stated that anyone identifying as other than a man or woman was not welcome at her salon, and suggested they seek services at a pet groomer instead.
The department alleges that this post violated the state's civil rights act by unlawfully discriminating against three claimants.
Geiger has filed her own complaint against the city of Traverse City and the three individuals, accusing them of violating the salon's First Amendment rights.
A hearing will be scheduled before an administrative law judge, who will issue a recommendation after hearing the merits of the complaint.
