Michigan Lands 2026 CB Ernest Nunley After Cal Release

Michigan capitalized on assistant-led ties to secure a late flip at a position of need.

The Anaheim Western cornerback visited Ann Arbor on Monday and announced his commitment Tuesday night after being released from a signed agreement at Cal last week.
Cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford and safeties coach Tyler Stockton led the recruitment, with Stockton having pursued Nunley previously while at Boise State.
Nunley is ranked No. 1,277 overall, No. 108 at cornerback, and No. 101 in California in the 247Sports composite.
He posted 57 tackles, 20 pass breakups, five interceptions and two forced fumbles as a senior, according to reported stats.
He joins four-star safety Jordan Deck as the only 2026 secondary commits following Andre Clarke Jr.’s release, and Michigan’s class now lists 22 commitments under new head coach Kyle Whittingham.
