Michigan Holds Special Election Primaries to Fill Vacant House Seats
Governor Gretchen Whitmer endorses Democrats Mai Xiong and Andrea Rutkowski in the 13th and 25th districts respectively.
- Two special election primaries are set for Tuesday in Michigan House districts to fill seats previously held by departing Democrats.
- Six candidates are contending in each of the Detroit-area districts, with the Democratic nominee expected to be the frontrunner in the general election.
- Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has endorsed Democrats Mai Xiong for the 13th District and Andrea Rutkowski for the 25th.
- The seats were vacated in November after Democratic state Reps. Lori Stone and Kevin Coleman won mayoral races in their hometowns, leaving the legislative chamber in a 54-54 deadlock.
- The April winner in each district will serve the remainder of the term, through the end of this year.
