Michigan GOP is in chaos with mounting financial problems, lackluster fundraising, secretive meetings and persistent infighting, with blame centered on the chair, Kristina Karamo.
Nearly 40 members of the Michigan Republican Party’s state committee called for a meeting to explore forcing out Karamo, and eight of the 13 Republican congressional district party chairs asked Karamo to resign.
The state party's debt stood around $620,000 as of early December, making national Republicans uneasy about giving money to the state party for election-related activity.
Karamo has been expelling dissident party officials and dissolved the party’s conflict-resolution committee, leading to more alienation within the party.
Prominent county chairs are urging Karamo’s removal, and anti-Karamo Republicans are looking for a new leader.
