Michelle Obama to Narrate Audiobook Edition of 'Where the Wild Things Are' on its 60th Anniversary

HarperCollins Publishers announces former First Lady's narration of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book, scheduled for release on October 31, in celebration of milestone anniversary.

  • Michelle Obama is set to narrate a digital audio edition of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book 'Where the Wild Things Are', announced HarperCollins Publishers. The release is scheduled for October 31, marking the 60th anniversary of the book.
  • Lynn Caponera, president and treasurer of the Maurice Sendak Foundation, expressed Sendak would have been delighted with Obama's rendition and commended her strong commitment to children.
  • This is not the first time the former First Lady has interacted with the book - she and former president Barack Obama read the book to a group of children during a White House Easter event in 2016.
  • Michelle Obama has experience in audiobook narration, having released an audiobook of her second memoir 'The Light We Carry' in June. She also won a Grammy for the spoken-word category for her audio version of her debut memoir, 'Becoming' in 2020.
  • Despite controversies and book bans due to the content perceived as too dark, 'Where the Wild Things Are' is a favorite of the Obamas. The book has sold over 20 million copies worldwide since its release and was even adapted into a motion picture.
