Michelin Unveils Northeast Cities Guide: Philadelphia’s First Stars, Boston’s Lone One-Star

The new Northeast Cities guide reflects Michelin’s expansion via tourism deals after months of anonymous inspections.

Overview

  • Philadelphia earned its first Michelin stars as Her Place Supper Club, Friday Saturday Sunday, and Provenance each received one, with Pietramala awarded a Green Star for sustainability.
  • Greater Boston debuted with one star for 311 Omakase, six Bib Gourmands, and 19 Recommended listings, and Mahaniyom received the Exceptional Cocktail Award.
  • The results were revealed Nov. 18 at Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center in the inaugural Northeast Cities edition covering Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Chicago, with Boston’s inclusion secured through a reported multimillion-dollar tourism partnership.
  • Michelin says anonymous inspectors judged restaurants on five criteria: product quality, harmony of flavors, mastery of techniques, the chef’s personality, and consistency.
  • The update also reshaped rankings elsewhere as Alinea, The Inn at Little Washington, and Masa were demoted from three to two stars, while Chicago’s Kasama rose to two and Feld earned one star plus a Green Star.
