Michelin Unveils Inaugural Southwest Guide With Stars Clustered in Las Vegas

Concentration of top honors in Las Vegas highlights a regional reputation boost that creates a baseline for Arizona’s future pursuit of stars.

Overview

  • Michelin published its first Southwest Guide at a ceremony in Las Vegas on Wednesday night, naming 64 restaurants across Nevada, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico.
  • Five restaurants earned stars: Restaurant de Joël Robuchon received two stars, and L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Guy Savoy, é by José Andrés (all Las Vegas) and Monte (South Salt Lake, Utah) each received one star.
  • Arizona received no stars but had 19 inclusions in the guide, including seven Bib Gourmands and 12 recommended listings that cover casual to fine dining across Phoenix, Scottsdale and Flagstaff.
  • Three Arizona hospitality professionals won special Michelin awards: Charleen Badman took the Mindful Voices prize, René Andrade won the Young Chef award, and John Germain won the Sommelier award.
  • Michelin said inspectors spent about two years conducting anonymous visits with local, national and international teams and that destination marketing partners did not influence selections, and local leaders say inclusion should boost tourism and sales over time.
