Michelin Details €130 Million Plan to Reopen Clermont-Ferrand Test Tracks by 2030

The €130 million makeover anchors a wider €300 million Cataroux redevelopment backed by more than 50 public and private partners.

Overview

  • The 10-hectare Quartier des Pistes will transform the 400-meter concrete tunnels and surrounding factories into a public culture and leisure destination with immersive experiences.
  • Planned amenities include a 2,000-seat performance hall, an expanded L’Aventure Michelin museum, restaurants, a hotel, housing, shops and sports areas.
  • Michelin projects about 400,000 visitors annually once the site opens to the public, with the Pôle d’Innovation Collaborative scheduled to launch in 2026 as an early milestone.
  • Sustainability measures include 3.5 hectares of new green space, roughly 300 trees, rainwater recovery systems and buildings powered by green energy to create a cooling urban microclimate.
  • Funding for the broader ~€300 million Cataroux program combines Michelin’s roughly €60 million with support from the Région, Clermont Métropole, Caisse d’Épargne, Crédit Agricole and Banque des Territoires, with about 1,000 jobs expected.
