Michael Ormandy Jailed for Life With 24-Year Minimum for Murder of Rebekah Campbell

The jury found his self-defence claim untenable after evidence showed a sustained attack causing 27 wounds.

Overview

  • A Liverpool Crown Court jury unanimously convicted Ormandy on Wednesday, and he was sentenced on Thursday to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 24 years.
  • Prosecutors presented texts showing Campbell’s fear, CCTV, and a Home Office post-mortem documenting 27 incised wounds and defence injuries, while Ormandy had only a minor hand cut.
  • Witness and court evidence showed he forced his way into Campbell’s Knowsley Heights flat wearing body armour as she told him to leave, before she collapsed and died hours later.
  • After the stabbing he phoned police making violent threats and claiming to wear a suicide vest, ditched his phone in a canal, and was arrested by armed officers.
  • At sentencing, family and friends wore pink ribbons as a tribute from her funeral, and police said Ormandy showed no remorse throughout the case.
