Michael Ormandy Guilty of Murdering Rebekah Campbell With Sentencing Today

The judge indicated his habit of carrying knives will count as a major aggravating factor.

Overview

  • Sentencing is scheduled today at Liverpool Crown Court following the murder conviction returned on Wednesday.
  • A jury of nine men and three women delivered a unanimous verdict after two hours and 16 minutes of deliberations.
  • Prosecutors said Rebekah Campbell, 32, suffered 18 stab wounds and nine slash injuries inside her Huyton flat before collapsing and later dying in hospital.
  • After the killing, Ormandy called police claiming to have a "suicide vest" and was arrested on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath wearing body armour, having told officers she "must have stabbed herself."
  • In court he smiled, clapped and shouted threats toward the public gallery, as the judge noted his habitual knife-carrying and a provisional view that Campbell never held a knife.
